LamTech is our team name for the HACC(Hawaii Annual Code Challenge) event. In this event we get to choose from 5 challenges, we choose to create a solution for the HMAR(Hawaii Marine Animal Response) Sighting & Reporting problem. HMAR uses a hotline to receive sighting reports of Hawaii marine animals, they are in need of a mobile friendly solution that is accessible for the public.
In our project, we mainly focus on two-sides, the public side and the admin side. First, the public side will have the ability to access our sight report form which they can put down the information and submit reports of their sightings, or they can call the hotline if they see the animal are in distress. On the admin side, admins will have the ability to login and view the database, which is contains a map and a list of sightings that is gather from the public. The map will mark location where the sighting occurred, and the list can be exported to a CSV file.
For this project we decide to solicit from someone with some marketing experience in order give a better presentation for the project, since we felt that presentation was one area we underperformed in the last competition. Thanks to the help we received, our presentation was much better despite the three-minute limit.
Another thing I noticed is that the winners provide a lot feature that the client didn’t ask for, and I believe the client didn’t realize that they wanted the extra features until it was shown to them. I learned that these extra features could determine the winner in competition.
