Event Finder
Overview
Event Finder is an application that helps people connect together even during after the COVID crisis. After the COVID lockdowns, many people lost connection with their friends and fell into social isolation, so we need to adapt to the new environment as fast as we can, such as making new friends, finding your buddy that has the same hobbies as do. Hence, we’ve built the Event Finder application. This is a Meteor application that we made for the Meteor Hackathon 2021. The main purpose we create this event finder is to help people to connect with each other, at the same time, try out different events to discover new things in their life.
My Contributions
- Attempted to geolocate the user without using the Google map API (Dropped due to time constrain).
- Search bar for filtering tags.
- Online/Offline toggle for filtering events.
- Display members and tags for event cards
- General bug fixes and polishes
What I Learned
The most impressive thing that I learn during this project and competition is that you can do a lot in five days. At first, I did not believe that we can create a big award-winning application within five days(we also had other school work due during this time). But thanks to the handwork and collaboration from me and my teammates, we were able to deliver a functional and polished application(not award-winning). Also, I was very impressed by the other applications done by our classmates. The only regret I have is that the main theme of our project is somehow the same with ~70% of our classmates, which made our project seem way less unique.
